Strengthening the company’s sustainability position through its tray to tray recycling brand AMB TrayRevive, AMB has signed a partnership agreement after a period of collaboration with B. For Pet, a major Italian recycler. This collaboration now means that post-consumer trays can be processed to produce rPET flake for the food packaging market.

The goal for AMB has always been to utilize new recycling streams to support the markets drive in sustainability, and thereby truly close the loop of the circular economy.

Paolo Cescutti, Chief Procurement Officer, AMB, explains: “At AMB we have invested time and resources in our partnership with B. For Pet, working and testing intensively to develop the right material that delivers a true sustainable source of raw materials from post consumers trays. Meaning we can divert more away from landfill or incineration, by the end of this year we would diverted over 46 million trays”.

Remo Brusaferri, Commercial Director of B. For Pet, notes: “We are delighted to be extending our long-standing partnership with AMB, as B. For Pet is playing a critical role in pioneering closed-loop plastic recycling in Italy and we are pleased to support AMB in developing sustainable packaging solutions.”

Achieving full tray-to-tray recycling

Through the agreement, B. For Pet supplies rPET from post-consumer trays for use in manufacturing food-grade transparent film. The partnership will ensure significantly higher tray recycled plastic content in AMB end products by utilising materials that up till now could not be used. Recycled materials will be provided to AMB in the form of PET flakes and will be sourced from the new recycling plant B. For Pet recently opened in Campolattaro (BN), Italy. Due to continuous research and development, the quality of the material gained has improved dramatically since the start of the project.

Paolo Cescutti, Chief Procurement Officer, AMB, explains: “Our in-depth knowledge and understanding of materials gained through this approach led to AMB’s tray-to-tray recycling initiative for its TrayRevive product. The recycled tray material developed in collaboration with B. For Pet fits our existing equipment and enables us to efficiently turn plastic waste into food-grade packaging.”

Food safety and consumer peace of mind

Today’s consumers are extremely mindful of sustainability and food safety issues. When buying food in a tray, they would like a guarantee that this tray is recyclable. With the products created by AMB, food processors and consumers can rest assured that utmost care has gone into both 100% recyclability and 100% food safety.
