Since work began in September 2017, 296 solar panels have been installed across the 2 buildings that make up our main headquarters in Telford, Shropshire. It is estimated that the panels will generate 54, 634 Kwh per annum, saving Torus approximately £7000-8000 pounds a year, depending of course on the amount of sunlight shining onto them. As an added bonus, Torus were able to fund the project using a £10,000 grant from the Carbon Trust which will take 1.3 years off the payback period for the solar panels. Based on this, it is estimated that our solar project will pay for itself after 5.5 years.
The solar panel installation is part of a larger project Torus are currently pursuing which aims to reduce energy usage and costs. Earlier this year, Torus undertook a full LED lighting upgrade on our shop floor area and in all offices as well as in outdoor spaces. It is estimated that the lighting upgrade will pay for itself within 4.8 years.
