Röchling invests two million euros in Lahnstein – Expansion of PET capacities

Mannheim, Germany

Shorter delivery times for customers and extended stock programme - Röchling Industrial invested two million euros in the expansion of the Röchling Sustaplast site in Lahnstein and had put new extrusion lines for the brand material Sustadur® PET into operation. Röchling is thereby responding to the high demand for sheets and round rods by improving availability and shortening delivery times for the brand material Sustadur® PET.

With this investment, the plastics processor is continuing its growth of recent years at the Lahnstein site. In 2019, Röchling expanded its existing production hall in Lahnstein by more than 3,000 square metres and also added new production facilities. With the set up of the latest lines, Röchling is completing the "Sustadur® Expansion" project that was presented to customers at the time in the newly created building space.

Mustafa Altintas, Managing Director/Global Technical Director Thermoplastics, explains: "Our PET business volume has grown steadily in recent years. With the expansion of our Sustadur® capacities, we are now able to respond even more flexibly and quickly to our customers' requests."

Franz Lübbers, member of the executive board of the Röchling Group in charge of the Industrial division, emphasises: "Since 2010, more than 40 million euros have been invested in the expansion in Lahnstein. As a leading manufacturer of high-performance plastics, we have continuously expanded our modern machinery and facilities. We recently opened a new logistics centre and expanded the existing areas in production and logistics halls in order to better address our customers' requirements."

Materials for mechanical and plant engineering

The engineering plastic PET with its well-rounded range of attributes is used in various industries. Examples include mechanical and plant engineering, the food industry, conveyor systems and electrical engineering. The brand material Sustadur® PET has a high dimensional stability, is very wear-resistant and has very low water absorption. Technical components such as guide and bearing elements or piston casings are typical applications.

In addition to Sustadur® PET, Röchling's product range includes the modifications Sustadur® PET GLD 120, Sustadur® PET GLD 130 and Sustadur® PET FG.

Sustadur® PET GLD 120 and Sustadur® PET GLD 130 were specifically developed by Röchling to offer very good sliding properties. The materials are particularly suitable for applications where components must support the functionality of machines and systems with their sliding properties.

Sustadur® PET FG (Food Grade) has been specially developed for machines and plants in the food industry and is suitable for direct contact with food in accordance with 10/2011/EU and the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

All materials are available from stock with short delivery times in various sizes as sheets and round rods.

Centre of competence for high-performance plastics

As part of Röchling's Industrial division with 42 locations worldwide, the Lahnstein site is the competence centre for high-performance plastics. The growth of Röchling Sustaplast SE & Co. KG is primarily due to the company's more than 330 employees and 29 trainees, who are trained in six professions. Röchling Sustaplast products are used in almost all areas of the capital goods industry: Important target industries include railway engineering, oil & gas, the electronics industry, mechanical engineering, the food industry, renewable energies and aviation.
