PolyOne Corporation, a premier global provider of specialized polymer materials, services and solutions, today announced additional steps in the Company’s ongoing expansion into sustainable technologies and the emerging biopolymer market. The Company has joined the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) Bioplastics Council, a service group focused on supporting the development of bio-based and bio-related polymers. As part of the Company’s specialization strategy, PolyOne has recently launched a series of new biopolymer compounds, colorants and additives including: Biopolymer-based thermoplastic compounds and elastomers that extend the performance characteristics of biopolymers well beyond previous levels, enabling manufacturers to meet the growing demand for environmentally conscious products in durable applications. Performance enhancement additives for biopolymers that extend the use and practical viability of bio-derived and biodegradable polymers. Compostable colorants for use with bio-derived and bio-degradable polymers to help meet globally accepted composting standards. PolyOne is responding to customer demand for eco-conscious solutions that meet performance and environmental objectives,” said Michael E. Kahler, senior vice president, commercial development. “By supporting SPI in its mission to promote the development of bioplastics, and through our participation in the Council, we look forward to contributing to the future of this important sector of the plastics industry. Marcel Dartee, global director of biopolymers at PolyOne, will be representing the Company on the SPI Bioplastics Council.
