PepsiCo sends 'Commercial Approval Letter'

1:49 min Management

The Starlinger PET recycling line recoSTAR PET iV+ (with recoSTAR SSP or viscoSTAR) has received approval from PepsiCo by way of a customer audit.   The Commercial Approval Letter states that the regranulate processed on a recoSTAR PET iV+ with accordingly defined parameters can be used up to 50% for CSD and Hot Fill bottles in direct food contact for PepsiCo. Approval is based on the second FDA LNO (extension to Hot Fill) granted to Starlinger in October 2007 (Conditions of Use C-G).One, but not the only, very important factor was the excellent decontamination capability of Starlinger's technology for recycling (recoSTAR PET) and solid state polycondensation (recoSTAR SSP, viscoSTAR), which was verified in the course of the challenge test for FDA approval. In the framework of the audit, also quality management and automation were assessed. The machine automatically switches over to non-food grade when a parameter fails and back to food grade when all parameters are complied with. Thus, when a food grade button is activated, any regranulate produced will fulfill the requirements as to decontamination. The approval is effective worldwide; however, each recycling company must ask PepsiCo for an audit.
