LyondellBasell Industries will participate in Chinaplas 2009, which will be held from May 18 to 21, 2009 at the China Import and Export Fair Pazhou Complex in Guangzhou, China. LyondellBasell’s stand will be located at Hall 10.2, Stand No E31.
The company will feature the capabilities for which it has become well-known: local expertise, marketing know-how, industry-leading technologies and competitive assets in the region.
“China is one of the most important regions for us in terms of growth,” said Paul Yeates, Senior Vice President of LyondellBasell’s Advanced Polyolefins business. “In December 2008, we opened our second polypropylene compounding plant in China, in Nansha, Guangzhou, which underscores our continuous commitment to the automotive and appliance markets of southern China.” As a leading global producer of polypropylene compounds for the automotive industry, the company operates 15 production plants (including joint ventures) worldwide.
Advanced polyolefins
LyondellBasell’s Hifax, Hostacom, Sequel, Dexflex, and Softell resins, which are used by automotive customers in the full range of applications such as bumpers, exterior components, body panels, interior parts, soft touch applications, structural parts, and under-the-hood will be featured, as well as tailored Hostacom polypropylene compounds used in E&E/white goods for injection-molded structural parts such as washing machine tubs and replacement of components based on engineering plastics (ABS, HIPS and PA).
The LyondellBasell stand will also showcase advanced materials from the Catalloy process, which deliver a wide range of characteristics for a vast array of demanding customer applications in automotive, appliances, flexible and industrial packaging, roofing and geomembranes.
“On display will be a sample installation of underfloor heating pipes produced using Akoafloor PB R 509, our first random polybutene-1 copolymer based on the company’s proprietary processing and catalyst technology designed for use in customer underfloor heating and surface cooling systems,” said Yeates.
For the consumer and packaging market, the company’s robust and ready-to-use solution for customer seal-peel applications, Toppyl, will be highlighted. A new range of butene-1 based polymers called Koattro resins will also be featured. They are used by customers in elastic applications such as film, fiber, tapes, closure lines and the aesthetic injection molding market.
World’s largest Hostalen ACP and Lupotech T process plants
“This year, approximately two million tonnes of innovative polypropylene and polyethylene resins will be marketed from LyondellBasell‘s three joint ventures in the Middle East – Saudi Polyolefins Company (SPC), Saudi Ethylene and Polyethylene Company (SEPC) and Al-Waha Petrochemical Company, which reinforces our dedication to a region that offers significant potential,” he added.
On stream in April, SEPC operates a 400 KT per year high density, multimodal polyethylene plant based on LyondellBasell’s latest-generation Hostalen ACP process, and a 400 KT per year low density polyethylene unit based on LyondellBasell’s Lupotech T technology.
Al-Waha Petrochemical Company, another joint venture company of LyondellBasell in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is in the final stages of starting up a 450 KT per year Spherizone process polypropylene plant.
“Both of SEPC’s polyethylene units and Al-Waha’s Spherizone process plant are the largest of their kind in the world,” said Yeates.
Product innovations from SEPC and Al-Waha
High density polyethylene (HDPE) resins produced using the Hostalen Advanced Cascade Process (ACP) will be showcased at Chinaplas 2009. By utilizing cascade reactor technology, the Hostalen ACP process produces resins with a unique combination of properties that are not achievable with conventional unimodal or bimodal HDPE grades. Customers select Hostalen resins for use in pipe, high performance film, blow molding and caps and closures applications.
LyondellBasell’s Spherizone technology is the new innovative process for polypropylene production, providing an economical and efficient method of manufacturing a wide range of high-quality polypropylene resins and novel, propylene-based polyolefin products. The company’s exhibit will include a new range of speciality polyolefins and Spherizone process-based grades used by customers in rigid and flexible packaging, housewares and furniture, electrical and electronics, and caps and closures applications.
