Enzymatic rPET

L’Occitane en Provence launches its first bottle made of 100% enzymatically recycled PET

Clermont-Ferrand, France

As part of the relaunch of its fragrance ranges, the bottle for the Cédrat Shower Gel becomes the first product from L’Occitane en Provence to benefit from CARBIOS enzymatic recycling technology, combining premium design with sustainability.

A key milestone that marks the acceleration of the partnership between the two companies and a significant step forward in advancing L’Occitane en Provence’s circularity ambitions.

Following a successful pilot series in 2024 with the Almond Shower Oil bottle, L’Occitane en Provence is accelerating its strategic partnership with CARBIOS and the deployment of bottles made from recycled PET.

The company announces the commercial launch, starting October 1st, of its first product using this cutting-edge enzymatic recycling technology: the Cédrat Shower Gel.

This new step confirms the brand’s ambition to progressively extend this innovation across its entire product range.

When elegance meets sustainability: a committed approach

L’Occitane en Provence has chosen the Cédrat Shower Gel, part of its fragrance collection fully relaunched this fall, to showcase its sustainable commitment: making no compromise between high-quality packaging and circularity. By deploying this innovation in the fragrance relaunch, L’Occitane en Provence reaffirms that sustainability is a priority deeply embedded in its product development strategy.

A breakthough technology for circular economy

This bottle is the result of CARBIOS’ enzymatic recycling technology, a process that breaks down all types of PET waste into their original monomers. These raw materials can then be reused to produce new PET with quality equivalent to virgin plastic.

Major benefits of this innovation include:

  • Superior quality: The enzymatically recycled  R-PET offers perfect transparency and gloss, unlike mechanically recycled PET which can have a greyish tint.

  • Increased circularity: CARBIOS technology allows recycling of previously hard-to-recycle plastics such as colored bottles or multi-layer trays.

  • Reduced environmental impact: Producing enzymatically recycled PET emits 92% less CO₂ compared to virgin PET from fossil resources. *

Accelerating the circularity strategy

The launch of the Cédrat Shower Gel supports a broader ambition. It will be gradually followed by the integration of this innovative material into other transparent bottles across the brand’s portfolio.
L’Occitane en Provence thus confirms its goal to achieve 100% recycled PET bottles by 2028, accelerating its transition away from virgin fossil-based plastics.

''Integrating CARBIOS’ enzymatically recycled PET into our Cédrat bottle marks a significant acceleration in our circularity strategy. Following the success of the first product in 2024, we demonstrate our ability to roll out this innovation across other iconic ranges without compromising the elegance of our packaging. Each additional bottle is a concrete step toward eliminating virgin plastic and building a high-performing circular economy for our packaging.'' - David Bayard, Packaging R&D Director at L’Occitane en Provence.
