Leading the way to Zero-Waste: Intuit bans single-use plastic and partners with PATHWATER for cultivating water bottle REUSE
Intuit’s operating values include Integrity, Passion, and Respect. These values have seamlessly extended to how the company interacts with our planet. As corporate sustainability becomes ever necessary, the tech team must take giant, logical steps that lead to genuinely positive impacts like eliminating plastic waste. Last year, it was calculated that Intuit employees in the U.S. used about 85,000 single-use water bottles. The unfortunate reality of plastic bottled water is that it doesn’t often get recycled. We’ve witnessed a worldwide breakdown in the plastic recycling system. This is why we require simple yet highly impactful solutions to our single-use waste stream issue; namely, we need more reusability. For this reason, Intuit has officially teamed up with PATHWATER, since we maintain a similar outlook and value system. Together, we are partnering to save the planet with a ‘Choose to REUSE’ action plan that will help Intuit reach their zero-waste goals.
Shifting the corporate norm of plastic bottled water waste to reuse
A game-changing initiative, Intuit has determined that saying goodbye to single-use plastic bottled water sales is in the best interest of workplace culture and sustainability. Intuit will now instead offer aluminum, reusable bottled water for the same price. They have found a unique partner to help them make the switch and have marked December 4, 2019, as the day they move forward for our planet, and never look back to plastic bottled water again.
Intuit is proud to continue its growing corporate action on climate change. As such, they believe this move to replace plastic bottled water with reusable PATHWATER bottles will help them achieve their goal to divert 90% of waste by 2020. The shift also plays into the three core climate action goals Intuit is targeting:
- Achieving 100% renewable electricity by 2030
- Reducing the carbon footprint of our facilities 80% by 2025
- Reducing our operational footprint 50% by 2025
Partnering to save the planet: PATHWATER & Intuit join forces
Instead of wasteful plastic bottled water, you will now see a sturdier bottle that is made to be reused and eventually recycled and made into a new bottle all over again.
The PATHWATER bottle is Intuit’s reusable path to improved hydration and ecological workplace footprint. Now, Intuit employees can easily grab a canteen-style bottled water that, unlike single-use plastic water bottles, is made of aluminum, and refill it to their health content. The aluminum in the PATHWATER bottle, is far sturdier than a soda can, and made from 100% recycled aluminum. The PATHWATER bottle was built with reuse in mind and intended to last. As Intuit build bridges to prosperity, they also look for opportunities to cut unnecessary waste, which is costly to ourselves and the earth.
The PATHWATER team has successfully worked with neighbors to cut plastic bottled water waste at San Francisco Airport (SFO). We have helped the airport in their efforts toward zero-waste and managed to keep the roaring traveler crowds hydrated with readily available PATHWATER bottles and strategically placed refill stations, and are eager to help Intuit achieve their zero-waste goals.
How to care for your PATHWATER and give it a long life
What does having access to a PATHWATER mean for us as we go through our workday? It means instead of taking a few trips to the vending machine for multiple plastic bottles; you’ll be taking a trip to a hydration station to refill your bottle as often as you’d like. It also means you will want to keep your bottle clean. Bottles should be rinsed daily with warm soapy water, and if you use a brush, make sure it has soft bristles. Once rinsed, you can either air-dry your bottle or refill it with cool, refreshing filtered water. You can always refer back to this visual as a guide:
How to spread the ‘Choose to Reuse’ message and lead other Fortune 50 companies
As part of our effort to support reuse on campus, PATHWATER will be working with everyone to help make the switch and lead others on the right path. We’re encouraging employees to join the revolution by snapping a video of the PATHWATER bottle being refilled and posting it to Instagram tagging @pathwater and @intuit with the hashtags #IntuitChooseToReuse #RefillNotLandfill #PATHWATER
At PATHWATER, we have long determined that one major solution to the plastic crisis is to make a reusable bottle that is accessible and comparable in price to plastic. The sturdy reusable bottle keeps you from buying new bottles every time you take that last sip. The PATHWATER bottle combines the ease of any reusable bottle and adds an accessible component by being lightweight, sleek, and extremely affordable. If the average person buys one bottle of water every day for the entire year, on average, this would cost about $547.50 for just one person. By adopting a lifestyle of reuse, anyone can begin to reinvest those savings into other areas of their life or business, especially if they’re buying bottled water for more than just themselves.
It’s time for everyone to join Intuit in the Choose to Reuse Revolution
Beyond Intuit’s commitment to support a culture of reuse, Intuit and PATHWATER would like to inspire other tech and Fortune 500 companies to make the shift from single-use plastic bottled water. This is a simple solution that can now be easily deployed. The planet cannot wait for our walk to catch up to our talk. As we help tech companies build initiatives toward zero-waste, we want their contribution and impact to be meaningful and ultimately measurable. PathWater is proud to partner with Intuit to make this change for the planet.
