Krones at Interpack: Eco-friendly and resource-economical

The world’s leading trade fair for the packaging sector will be held in Düsseldorf from 12 to 18 May 2011. And to coincide neatly with this major event, Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, will be premiering an entirely new packaging design.Developed using a totally different approach from shrink-wrap packages, the new design is a response to ongoing market trends for PET container secondary packaging: eco-compatibility plus resource and energy savings. Users achieve substantial cost savings compared to shrink-film.When it comes to deciding on secondary packaging for PET containers, the normal choice is a shrink-pack, which currently accounts for more than 30 per cent of the total market, and the figure is still rising. However, producing the shrink-film requires fossil raw materials. During the shrink-on process inside the shrink tunnel, too, energy consumption is relatively high. This is why the R&D people at Krones aimed to create a resource-economical alternative to film-shrink-wrapped packs – a complete pack system including both the packaging as such and the associated machinery.
