The NPE2009, the lead show for the plastics industry in the North American market, has just ended. Machinery and systems supplier KraussMaffei draws a positive balance for the show. The company’s analysis is based on impressive sales figures which indicate that, when market conditions are difficult, plastics processors turn to a technology partner who can offer them long-term, future-proof cooperation. Success at the big show From June 22 to 26, 2009, international plastics industry professionals gathered in the McCormick Place exhibition centre in Chicago, where the American Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI) partnered with the SPE to host this year’s NPE2009. The three-yearly event is the most important regular industry event for the North American market. “From our point of view and considering the current crisis state of our industry, the NPE 2009 was very successful,” said Paul Caprio, President of KraussMaffei Corporation with overall responsibility for the US activities of all three KraussMaffei divisions – Injection Moulding Machinery, Extrusion and Reaction Process Machinery. Caprio pointed out that, “We’ve been able to show our customers how multi-process technologies are the route to success even in very challenging market conditions.” Even in the severe economic downturn that has hit the American automotive industry, and in consequence many plastics processors, extremely hard, the KraussMaffei team succeeded in booking orders worth 6.5 million dollars. This represents an increase of over 60% compared with the NPE2006. This success is even more impressive in view of the fact that KraussMaffei – along with many other companies – cut back its NPE spend significantly. Moving forward together KraussMaffei, the world’s biggest supplier of plastics machinery, showcased products from all three technology divisions including some striking multi-technology applications. This bundled expertise enables KraussMaffei to serve customers from sectors as diverse as medical technology, packaging, automotive and construction materials. The range of products and process know-how has clear advantages at a time where plastics processors more than ever want to work with technology partners who can deliver on long-term stable cooperation.
