From PE to PET for dairy products

The “From PE to PET for dairy products” project was launched at the beginning of 2023 as part of a kick-off meeting between Coop and Emmi.
A new sorting plant for white PET bottles should be operational at Pet Recycling Switzerland in summer 2023. By mid-2024, the existing sorting facilities should also be equipped to sort white PET.
To test consumer acceptance of PET bottles for milk, we launched a test in Eastern Switzerland in June 2023 with two Bio Regio milk products in transparent PET bottles (no advertising and no communication support).
We then used the test results and the results of the Life Cycle Assessment - commissioned at the same time with Emmi - to decide which products to convert to PET. Since January 2024, we have now converted various milk and dairy products (private label and branded). Our ambition is to convert even more milk and dairy products currently packaged in PE to PET in the future.
