Bolton, Ontario, Canada

Husky Injection Molding Systems today announced that it will be demonstrating its new HyCAP™ system, specifically optimized for high output beverage closure manufacturing, at NPE 2009. HyCAP has features to help customers reduce resin costs and lower the operating costs of conversion. The 72-cavity HyCAP 300 system at NPE will be running a lightweight 26 millimeter water closure weighing 0.98 grams at less than three second cycles. This is a significant improvement from the industry standard for this part, which is 3.5 to 4.0 second cycles on a 1.6 gram closure.“Optimized to provide speed, reliability and part consistency, Husky’s new high performance HyCAP is the result of a combination of refinements to the entire system, making it specifically designed to meet the needs of beverage closure manufacturers,” said Jeff MacDonald, Husky’s Vice President of Marketing. “This integrated solution demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing complete, high quality solutions for the beverage packaging market.” Industry-leading cycle timesHyCAP’s industry-leading cycle times have been achieved through a combination of performance improvements, including faster clamp cycles, features to reduce cooling time, and tighter integration of hot runner control. These enhancements will allow beverage closure manufacturers to increase productivity levels to match or exceed alternate processes while providing increased design flexibility, precision and repeatability. Another time saving element is HyCAP’s new semi-automated approach to color change. A beta version of this feature will be demonstrated at NPE. Ideal for lightweight, one-piece closuresHyCAP offers injection accuracy and hot runner balance to reduce part weight variation, improve processing window limits and provide more consistent part dimensions, which are all vital as parts become lighter and thinner. To achieve this, modifications have been made to the machine and hot runner to achieve tighter tolerances, better melt control, minimized plate deflection, as well as accommodate the needs of challenging closure resins. These combined benefits make HyCAP the ideal system to produce the new, shorter, lightweight caps, such as those for the recently introduced PCO 1881 neck finish.Complete, integrated beverage packaging solutionAvailable from 225 to 500 tonnes (248 to 550 tons), HyCAP is an important part of Husky’s complete beverage packaging solution. Husky offers systems with complete melt stream control, including machine, hot runner, Altanium® temperature controller, mold cooling optimization, lightweighting, as well as the industry’s most comprehensive after-sales support program. This level of integration provides molders with the necessary tools to run a faster, more efficient system.Husky will debut the new HyCAP system at NPE. Details are as follows:  Machine: Husky HyCAP 300 RS65/60 Mold: Corvaglia 72-cavity mold Part weight: Less than 1.0 gram Resin: DOW™ XDMDC 1210 High Density Polyethylene Resin Cycle time: Less than 3.0 second cycles Auxiliaries: IMD vista AllinOne with part cooling, orientation, vision inspection and boxing equipment; Plastic Systems DSH1000  mold dehumidification system; Piovan resin loading system

This is a significant improvement from the industry standard for this part, which is 3.5 to 4.0 second cycles on a 1.6 gram closure.

Industry-leading cycle times

HyCAP’s industry-leading cycle times have been achieved through a combination of performance improvements, including faster clamp cycles, features to reduce cooling time, and tighter integration of hot runner control.

Ideal for lightweight, one-piece closures

HyCAP offers injection accuracy and hot runner balance to reduce part weight variation, improve processing window limits and provide more consistent part dimensions, which are all vital as parts become lighter and thinner. To achieve this, modifications have been made to the machine and hot runner to achieve tighter tolerances, better melt control, minimized plate deflection, as well as accommodate the needs of challenging closure resins. These combined benefits make HyCAP the ideal system to produce the new, shorter, lightweight caps, such as those for the recently introduced PCO 1881 neck finish.

Complete, integrated beverage packaging solution

Available from 225 to 500 tonnes (248 to 550 tons), HyCAP is an important part of Husky’s complete beverage packaging solution. Husky offers systems with complete melt stream control, including machine, hot runner, Altanium® temperature controller, mold cooling optimization, lightweighting, as well as the industry’s most comprehensive after-sales support program. This level of integration provides molders with the necessary tools to run a faster, more efficient system.

Husky will debut the new HyCAP system at NPE. Details are as follows:

  • Machine: Husky HyCAP 300 RS65/60
  • Mold: Corvaglia 72-cavity mold
  • Part weight: Less than 1.0 gram
  • Resin: DOW™ XDMDC 1210 High Density Polyethylene Resin
  • Cycle time: Less than 3.0 second cycles
  • Auxiliaries: IMD vista AllinOne with part cooling, orientation, vision inspection and boxing equipment; Plastic Systems DSH1000  mold dehumidification system; Piovan resin loading system
