Rexam PLC, the global consumer packaging company, announces that Graham Chipchase is to succeed Leslie Van de Walle on 1 January, 2010 when Leslie retires from the Group to concentrate on, and develop, his non executive interests.
Graham has been Group Director Plastic Packaging since July 2005 and joined the Rexam Board as Group Finance Director in February 2003.
Commenting, Leslie Van de Walle, CEO, said:
I am very pleased to be handing over to Graham, with whom I have worked closely for the past three years. In my time as CEO we have established the foundations on which Rexam can build a successful future and both the Board and I believe that now is the right time to hand the reins over to Graham to take the business forward.
Commenting, Peter Ellwood, Chairman said:
In his tenure as Chief Executive, Leslie achieved much during a period of unprecedented turmoil in the global economy. With his international business experience, he has brought a strong market focus to Rexam and instilled the disciplines needed to manage through difficult trading conditions. His contribution to the Board has been most valuable. We wish him every success in the future.
We are delighted to appoint Graham as Chief Executive from the start of next year. He knows Rexam and its people well through his operational and financial roles and has demonstrated the leadership skills to take our company forward. With Graham at the helm, we look forward with confidence to the next phase of Rexam's development.
