The Italian Packaging Institute (Istituto Italiano Imballaggio) has awarded an Oscar dell’Imballaggio 2015 to the DecoType dress applicator from Krones AG, Neutraubling, Germany, for its innovative technology. The Oscar dell’Imballaggio is a highly regarded, traditional packaging prize that has been awarded regularly ever since 1957. Paolo Sacconelli from Krones Italy accepted the Oscar in person at the packaging trade fair ipack ima 2015 in Milan. In the shape of the DecoType dress applicator, Krones AG has for the first time unveiled a direct printing system for printing on plastic bottles. In comparison to dress featuring labels, direct printing offers significantly more freedom for attractively individualised container design. In particular, digital decoration using DecoType enables clients to print on container structures that were impossible to handle with previous labelling technologies.
With the new DecoType direct printing system, print heights of up to 200 millimetres can be achieved using UV inks. This machine, in modularised, compactly dimensioned construction, is suitable for handling empty plastic containers made of PET, PP or PE, for cylindrical and special shapes alike. The Krones DecoType expands the firm’s product portfolio for container dress applications to include an entirely new decoration variant.Photo Krones AG:In the shape of the DecoType dress applicator, Krones has premiered a system for direct printing on plastic bottles.
