DAK Americas LLC (DAK) announced that it has completed the acquisition of the PET Resins business of Wellman, Inc. (“Wellman”). The acquisition brings DAK Americas total PET resin production capacity to more than 4.3 billion pounds annually (1,945 KTons) in the Americas.
The acquisition includes the PET Resin production facilities in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, U.S.A. The site has a production capacity of approximately 950 million lbs/yr (430 Ktons/yr) of PET Resin and a work force of approximately 165 people. These facilities will be integrated into DAK Americas Resins Business Unit which also has U.S. operations in Wilmington, NC; Fayetteville, NC and Charleston, SC. This follows DAK’s purchase of Eastman’s U.S. Integrated PET Business in Columbia S.C., which was completed in February 2011 and Eastman’s International operations in Cosoleacaque, Mexico and Zarate, Argentina that were completed in the Fall of 2007.
“This latest addition reinforces DAK‘s position as an important player in the global PET marketplace,” said Hector Camberos, President and CEO, DAK Americas. “This manufacturing facility will allow DAK to broaden its PET Resin product offerings.”
Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Resin is widely used for the production of carbonated soft drink and water bottles, as well as, other food and consumer product packaging applications.
