Croda awarded Innovate UK funding in ISCF Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge

Snaith, Goole, East Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Croda’s Smart Materials business will work in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast to develop a new sustainable slip additive for polyester packaging. The R&D project starts in October 2020 and lasts for 12 months. The aim of this work is to develop a novel polymer additive solution to enable more efficient and sustainable processing of PET bottles via SBM, while having no impact on recyclability of the PET.

Croda will lead the design, synthesis and processing of innovative and sustainable chemistries from the Polymer Additives R&D centre of excellence in Hull, UK. The project team, led by Dimitris Vgenopoulos, brings many years of polymer additives applications expertise and experience in developing new sustainable chemistries for plastics applications. The Polymer Processing Research Centre at Queen’s University, led by Gary Menary, will collaborate on this project by providing expertise in polymer processing and material characterisation.
