CCM – which stands for ‘continuous compression moulding’ – is an innovative technology that, in the eyes of specialists in the production of plastics caps for drinks, is fast becoming a byword for competitiveness. And if compression technology has already demonstrated itself to be the winning weapon in the battle for market success, it has done so largely because of the reliability and performance of machines made by Sacmi, the leading producer of machines designed for beverage&packaging.
The company has chosen Emballage 2008 – The Paris-held international fair dedicated to the world of packaging, scheduled for 17th - 21st November – as the showcase for its latest compression machine, developed by the Sacmi Imola Closures & PET division research facilities. This is the new CCM24S, which will be displayed on the Sacmi Group stand (hall 3). An evolution of the CCM48S, it offers the same outstanding performance, low consumption and ultra-short cycle times (as fast as 2.4 seconds) and its 24 moulds make it perfect for companies looking to achieve hourly outputs of 30,000 pieces.
Able to produce caps with diameters up to 33 mm (in PP or PE) the CCM24S enhances the Sacmi range by blending high productivity and contained consumption with low maintenance costs, production flexibility (e.g. by minimising the colour changeover times) and practicality of use, thanks also to its compact design. The CCM24S, like the CCM48S, is produced by Sacmi with an integrated vision system for in-line quality control.
Produced by the Automation & Inspection Systems division, Sacmi vision systems constitute a comprehensive sets of solutions and technologies for production line and process quality control, and are applicable to all the Group’s business areas. More specifically, since 1987 Sacmi has produced, for the beverage & packaging market, CVS vision systems – in-line or stand-alone – that execute accurate, reliable inspection of PET preforms, plastic or metal closures, labels, cans, plastic and glass bottles, pharmaceutical phials and flacons. At present some 2000 Sacmi CVS systems are employed all over the world.
In addition to the CCM24S with relative integrated vision system – and other technological gems exhibited by the Group’s subsidiaries – sales teams from Sacmi Imola, Sacmi West Europe, Sacmi Labelling, Sacmi Pakim, Sacmi Filling and Sacmi Packaging will also be present. In particular, Sacmi Labelling will be presenting potential customers with its complete range of automatic glass, plastic and metal labelling machines: visitors will have the opportunity to take a close look at the characteristics of MONOBIB, an integrated filling/packaging centre that incorporates all the functions needed to create bag in box packages, produced jointly with Sacmi Pakim.
Sacmi Filling will be showing visitors numerous new filling solutions – from traditional lines to the COMBO model, designed to manage PET bottles – which all have the following in common: excellent reliability, guaranteed by extensive use of stainless steel and anti-corrosion materials, and outstanding mechanical precision, achieved by using cutting-edge technologies, from plasma laser to sintering.
Over the last few years increased competition and a growing tendency for companies to seek out one-stop suppliers able to provide complete turnkey plants have encouraged the company to develop synergies and solutions with other Sacmi Group firms. Sacmi Packaging, then, while continuing to operate independently on international markets, will also be working alongside other Group companies to offer end-of-line solutions in all the industries where they operate by investing resources in both Divisions.
The results achieved over the last two years have shown the strategy to be a winning one. They also reinforce the conviction that the right choices have been made. More specifically, 2007 saw the completion of several interesting projects with Sacmi Pakim and Sacmi Labelling as regards Bag-In-Box processes, where effective inter-company teamwork has allowed the Group to supply complete lines for the beverage, wine and detergent industries.
