Belfast-based tech company BMT win Shell Springboard Awards for Sustainable Plastics Software
Belfast-based technology company Blow Moulding Technologies (BMT) have been successfully awarded £40,000 after winning the semi-final of the Shell Springboard Aberdeen Awards with their unique software ‘Preview Bio-Plastics Simulation’.
BMT’s software provides a novel and timely solution to the global plastic bottle epidemic. Using their unique skills and bespoke instrumentation in Stretch Blow Moulding, BMT have the ability to carry out a series of fundamental tests and generate data on all types of polymers – from PET blends, to bio-sourced polymers to bio-degradable. This validated data is then used to create an ideal representation of the plastic bottle blowing process, so that global drinks brands and multi-nationals can make a seamless shift to the mass market production of more sustainable plastic bottles.
Speaking at the awards, CEO Yannis Salomeia said;
“Our simulation software enables plastic bottle manufacturers to confidently design bottles made from alternative materials. We are delighted to win this Shell Springboard award - it will help provide the exposure and funding we need to help commercialise our software across the global market.”
The Shell Springboard programme is an innovative and entrepreneurial awards competition which plays a vital role in supporting the energy transition whilst accelerating the UK’s economic growth. It provides funding to innovative and commercially viable SME’s that can help the UK transition to a lower carbon economy.
After winning the semi-final, BMT will now progress to the final in London on the 3rd of July, to compete against 5 other finalists, with an opportunity to win an additional grant of £110,000.
