Recently, bisphenol-A (BPA), an additive used in the production of polycarbonate bottles and containers, has come under scrutiny by consumer groups and the media.
Amcor PET Packaging would like to take this opportunity to assure its customers (and their consumers) that BPA is not used in the manufacture of its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles.
PET, a thermoplastic polymer, has been proven safe for many years in direct food contact applications. It is regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and complies with the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 sections 117.1630 and 177.1315.
PET materials used by Amcor PET Packaging do not contain antimicrobial, fungicidal or pesticidal additives. Further, the PET materials do not “contain” and/or are not “manufactured with” any “ozone depleting chemicals” within the meaning of Title VI of the U.S. Clean Air Act, and U.S. EPA regulation 40 CFR Part 82: “protection of Stratospheric Ozone.”
Additionally, the PET materials used by Amcor PET Packaging are fully recyclable and qualify for the primary, voluntary recycling designation “1.”
