tesa, the international manufacturer of innovative adhesive tapes and self-adhesive product solutions, is relaunching one of its classics. From now on, the well-known tesafilm® will be more sustainable and will be joined by the new “tesafilm® Eco & Crystal” line. The backing is made from 90 percent recycled PET, the adhesive mass from water-based acrylate, and the roll core from 100 percent industrially generated residues from plastic processing. In keeping with these developments, tesa is introducing a new design: The sustainable progress of tesafilm® Eco & Crystal will be visible on all packaging and at the POS. The product is available from specialist retailers and in selected online stores from September. Customers will then be able to purchase the more sustainable adhesive tape in retail stores from the beginning of 2024.
With this innovation, tesa is pursuing its agenda to improve product sustainability across all ranges. As part of its sustainability strategy, by 2030 tesa is aiming to increase the share of recycled and bio-based materials in all products to 70 percent and to reduce the use of non-recycled fossil-based plastic by half.
Sustainability meets strong performance and quality
With the high recycled portion in its backing material, the new tesafilm® Eco & Crystal is not only more sustainable, but also scores points for its high tensile strength and durability, coupled with high transparency. “We are delighted that with tesafilm® Eco & Crystal, we are able to offer our customers a product that is not only more sustainable, but also remains thoroughly impressive in its quality and performance. As part of our sustainability strategy, we are continually adapting existing ranges, and we’re aiming to pick up the pace of this process. Our well-known tesafilm® has gone through various stages of evolution over the years. Now, another crucial stage has been reached,” says Dr. Andreas Mack, Member of the Executive Board for the Consumer division at tesa.
The 90 percent PCR-PET (post-consumer recycled PET) content in the backing material of the new tesafilm® Eco & Crystal has been externally certified by UL-Solutions to the UL ECVP 2809-2 standard. The certificate for the INGEDE Method 121 is also available.
