Value chain partners from all over the world can now benefit from the recording and retrieval of packaging properties which enables better recycling. This development improvesproduct sustainability, quality, and both plastic manufacturing and recycling processes.
Resource-efficient solutions from ILLIG
ILLIG is active around the globe through its subsidiaries and trading partners. The family-owned company develops and builds innovative, economical, and high-performance systems to realize resource-efficient and sustainable packaging solutions made of cardboard, paper, and plastic.
The machine and tool manufacturer consistently focuses on resource-saving and economically manufacturable products that are well-suited for use in today’s recycling ecosystem.. With its "Circular Thinking!" approach, ILLIG bundles many years of technical know-how into the development of sustainable systems. The Heilbronn-based company thus clearly follows the sustainability principles of reduce, reuse, separate, recycle and renew.
With its comprehensive packaging development approach, "Pactivity® 360", ILLIG also supports packaging manufacturers in designing recyclable applications. Packaging produced on ILLIG systems reduces the use of raw materials and supports better recycling.
By joining R-Cycle, ILLIG is now able to advise customers on the implementation of digital product passports for recycling-friendly applications.
About R-Cycle
As a cross-industry standard, R-Cycle connects all process partners along the cycle - from the packaging manufacturer to the processor to the recycling industry. If you look at today's waste streams, recyclable packaging cannot be sorted with sufficient precision for high-quality recycling. With R-Cycle, production machines automatically record recycling-relevant properties in a digital product passport, route it through the value chain and make it retrievable via appropriate marking (e.g. digital watermarks or QR codes) on the packaging. This enables waste sorting plants to identify recyclable packaging and form recyclable and unmixed fractions. This is the basis for obtaining high-quality recyclates to build a functioning circular economy.
In addition to improving product sustainability, manufacturers worldwide are increasing their process efficiency and product quality through the use of the digital product passport. Accurate information about source materials speeds up production, while recording their own product characteristics adds value for customers in the downstream process. Another use case where the digital product passport can be a benefit is in the fulfillment of (emerging) legal information requirements, such as in the calculation of the carbon footprint or in the area of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
