This recognition, issued by Bureau Veritas – a world leader in testing, inspection and certification services – verifies Guala Closures are producing "Circular Packaging" and "Bio-Circular Packaging" closures, which are certified as sustainable thanks to control of the entire supply chain, from raw materials to final products.
ISCC Plus certification enables companies to monitor and demonstrate the quality of their products by checking the sustainability and traceability requirements along the entire production chain. This represents a real commitment to supporting a circular economy, helping businesses to act more responsibly. This includes promoting production that pays attention to environmental and social aspects in addition to the economic profile.
This certification covers all closures produced at the Spinetta Marengo site, according to a mass balance approach, as long as they contain a part manufactured with ISCC Plus certified plastics declared in the audit report.
For more than ten years Guala Closures has been actively committed to promoting sustainable development. Since 2020, the Group has been offering a line of sustainable closures – Blossom® Sustainable Closures – designed to follow the Group's eco-design guidelines to reduce their environmental impact. In addition, specifically designed projects and partnerships have been developed, such as the agreement signed with Oceanworks® enabling the Group to produce closures made with recycled plastic from coastal ecosystems.
In September 2021, Guala Closures joined the UN Global Compact in order to share, support, and apply the Ten Sustainability Principles set out in the Compact. Franco Bove, COO of Guala Closures Group, commented, “We are happy that our historic headquarters is the first plant within the Group to obtain ISCC Plus certification. It is an important signal and a quality standard that we intend to replicate in the other Guala Closures plants around the world.
