Under the 'Coke Recycle Me with Trash Lucky' campaign, Coca-Cola, IVL and Trash Lucky encouraged consumers to separate out their recyclables at home - including post-consumer PET bottles - with chances to win special prizes from Trash Lucky. The prizes were sponsored by Coca-Cola. The campaign has so far collected over 400 kilograms of post-consumer PET plastic bottles or approximately 27,000 pieces of 600 ml bottles for recycling. The collected empty bottles were converted to high-quality yarn at IVL's recycling plant in Nakhon Pathom and the yarn was woven into 100% recycled polyester fabric to produce 1,500 Level 2 PPE suits. Level 2 PPE suits are water-repellent and have hydrostatic pressure properties with a resistance to infiltration by a coronavirus. This type of PPE suit is suitable for the treatment of low-risk and medium-risk patients. They are reusable and washable up to 20 times.
The 'Coke Recycle Me with Trash Lucky' campaign continues until 30 November 2021 inviting consumers to collect PET plastic bottles of any brand - as well as other recyclable waste - with chances to win prizes worth more than 900,000 baht.
Mr. Nuntivat Thamhatai, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Director at Coca-Cola (Thailand) Ltd., said, "Tackling the waste problem requires collective action from all of us. We encourage everyone to separate out and recycle their empty containers through programs like this. We’ve also added the prominent message of 'Recycle Me' on the package labels of all our sparkling brands in Thailand to remind consumers to recycle the bottle after they’ve enjoyed the drink. By collaborating with like-minded partners such as Indorama Ventures and Trash Lucky, who have extensive experience in PET bottle collection and recycling, we can further drive consumer behavioral change to increase levels of packaging collection and recycling."
Mr. Yash Lohia, Chief Sustainability Officer at Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL), said, "IVL is delighted that our partners Coca-Cola and Trash Lucky are part of the recycling and providing help to the three southernmost provinces in need of PPE suits to protect their medical personnel. With IVL’s recycling experience and expertise, transforming PET bottles into high-quality fibers to produce PPE suits will not only help our plastic pollution problem but will also drive a circular economy and create broader participation."
Mr. Nattapak Atichartakarn, Co-founder and CEO of Trash Lucky Ltd., added, "Trash Lucky's mission is to incentivize people to recycle and divert plastics from landfills and oceans. We have collaborated with various organizations to educate the public on waste sorting and the benefits of recycling. We want to make recycling a habit for people. We are grateful that this partnership can simultaneously stimulate recycling, allow participants to win big prizes, and help medical personnel fight against COVID-19."
