1:31 min Bottle development and design

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners is rolling out new, lighter bottles across its European markets. As part of the Net Zero 2040 roadmap, this is expected to save 6,800 tonnes of plastic annually by 2024.

Since 2008, the weight of 500 ml PET bottles of the various Coca-Cola brands has decreased by 30%, from 28.9 g to 19.9 g. The new lighter weight neck design will to save a further 1g of plastic per bottle, equivalent to a total of 6,800 tonnes of plastic by the end of 2024.

This is part of the effort to reduce the amount of fossil-based plastic in packaging and reduce packaging. The goal is to use three million tonnes less new plastic from fossil-based sources by 2025. In addition to weight reduction, measures on the way to "A world without waste", The Coca-Cola Company's vision, include the elimination of hard-to-recycle materials and innovations in refillable and dispensed solutions.
